CD CHARITY TREE HITS NEW HEIGHTS FOR CANCER RESEARCH
Fitzpatrick Design, a Scarborough-based design consultancy has come up with an innovative, charitable alternative to sending out Christmas cards to friends and clients this year.
Creative Director, Neil Fitzpatrick who is also a musician, wrote and released a song entitled 'Apart' earlier in the year with the aim of raising thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.
5000 CDs were produced and so far £9,000 had been raised for the charity through CD and download sales and other fundraising efforts.
Neil says, "Although we've managed to raise a lot of money in just 6 months, the aim is to get closer to £25k as soon as possible. Rather than send out cards to clients, we thought we'd save the money we'd usually spend and donate that to the charity, whilst also doing something a little more creative to keep the festive spirit alive!"
The team at Fitzpatrick Design spent an agonising 6 hours building a Christmas 'giving' tree out of the thousands of remaining CD copies of the song, to raise awareness of the project and, ultimately, to raise more funds for Cancer Research UK.
Neil was inspired to write the song when a close friend died of bowel cancer, followed by his mother-in-law Penny, and his Father, Derek, who died of lung cancer just two days after Christmas last year.
He says, "It's been a very difficult few years and I'm determined to get to my target of £25,000 to help fund research into this awful disease, so that one day, maybe others will be spared the devastation it causes".
The tree can be viewed at Woodend Creative Workspace in Scarborough throughout December and early January, where visitors can purchase a CD and also enter a draw to win a festive goody bag by guessing the amount of CDs used to build it.
