Coast to Coast Walk at Robin Hood's Bay
The Coast to Coast walk was devised by Alfred Wainwright and stretches 190 miles from St. Bees in West Cumbria on the shores of the Irish Sea to finish in North East Yorkshire.
Weaving its way from west coast to east to keep the prevailing wind and rain on walkers' backs and the evening sun out of their eyes, the route takes in the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors including Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont, before finishing in Robin Hoods Bay.
Walkers are recommended to dip a booted foot into the Irish Sea in St Bees and at the end of the walk repeat the feat in Robin Hood's Bay to celebrate the completion of their walk.
The walk is traditionally divided into stages, each of which is to be completed in a day, with one or two rest days included along the route. The entire coast to coast fits into a two-week holiday and with plenty of guesthouses, B&Bs and pubs along the way waiting to refuel weary participants, 'coast to coasters' are kept well fed and watered to the end.
