Fylingthorpe
Fylingthorpe is 4 miles/6 kilometres south of Whitby. From the eastern edge of Fylingdales Moor, a steep winding road leads down to the village of Fylingthorpe. The road then continues through the village to its well-known coastal neighbour, Robin Hood's Bay. The placename ending of 'thorpe' indicates that was a Scandinavian settlement perhaps dating from 9th century. Facilities include a public toilet, picnic area, general store, public house which serves meals, there is also a regular bus service, church, public telephone box and post office.
