Egton was once an important township, but is now a small peaceful village set in traditional farmland with the old market cross at its centre. Each year in August, Egton hosts one of the largest Agricultural Shows in the area. Amenities include a restaurant, general store/shop, public house serving bar meals, public telephone/toilet , church, post office, picnic area.

The Middlesbrough to Whitby Esk Valley Railway stops at Egton station.
